Elizabethan Suite, Bury Town Hall, Knowsley Street

Wed 3rd July 2013

The venue for the next 55+ Retirement Roadshow is Bury Town Hall, BL9 0SW, in the Main Hall of the Elizabethan Suite.

The entrance is situated just around the corner of the building at Knowsley Street very close to Lloyds Chemists at the junction where Manchester Road joins the inner town circular road, Angouleme Way.

It is also on the opposite side of the road to Bury Market. The show opens at 9-30 am and closes at 3-30 pm.

Bury Metropolitan Borough is situated on the River Irwell and located North of Greater Manchester although many older residents still refer to Bury as being in Lancashire. Bury is within easy reach of the M62, M61 & M65 and the Bury  Metro Tram links to Manchester city centre and beyond to Altrincham in Cheshire.

The Borough covers a large area consisting of smaller towns and villages such as Radcliffe, Tottington, Ainsworth, Prestwich, Whitefield, Ramsbottom and Holcome Brook. Similar to nearby large towns such as Bolton, Bury emerged in the 19th century industrial revolution as a substantial North West mill town and now boasts a population of around 200,000.

The Town is the home of the Lancashire Royal Fusiliers Headquarters now the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. Bury is also well known for its world famous ‘Bury Market’ with an estimated 250,000 weekly visitors.

The market is situated just opposite Bury town hall and Wednesdays is probably one of the best days forwhen retired people arriving in coachloads from all over the country. Bury also has its share of famous people such as Sir Robert Peel founder of the modern day police force and on a lighter note, the comedienne Victoria Wood attended Bury Grammar School.

Take advantage of our 'Ten Minute Surgeries' programme to quiz our experts at the show.

We will have solicitors who specialise in laws relating to the elderly. In particular, with regard to asset protection and long-term care, Court of Protection issues. We will also have a representative from Tax Help for Older People.

There are several places within a few minutes of the Town Hall where you can get a drink and a bite to eat. In particular why not visit Bury Market for a really enjoyable experience.

Knowsley Car Park and Pay and display meters are located outside the Town hall on Knowsley Street. The nearest paid car parks are just 3 minutes walking distance on Manchester Road, 5 minutes to The Castle on Spring Street and free 9 minutes away on the retail estate near Asda.
